About Carole M. Megarry

Carole Megarry is a sole practice family law attorney with over twenty-five years experience. For the past eighteen years, she has limited her practice to family law. Most of her work is in the seven counties of the metropolitan Minneapolis area, that is, Hennepin, Ramsey, Dakota, Scott, Washington, Anoka and Carver. Her office is located in downtown Minneapolis two blocks from the Hennepin County Family Justice Center, which makes her appearances there convenient and cost effective.

Ms. Megarry is well acquainted with many other professionals whose knowledge and expertise are sometimes required in family law matters. She uses consulting accountants, psychologists, vocational experts, property appraisers, and other professionals and para-professionals according to what her cases require.

Who hires Carole Megarry? All sorts of people. In divorce matters she has represented men and women of wealth with substantial business interests and other sizeable assets to be valued and divided. She has also represented parents who had few assets but great difficulty resolving the custody of their children. She has represented spouses with claims for spousal maintenance and spouses resisting maintenance claims. She has represented parties with physical and emotional disabilities and parties who do not speak English well. She has handled divorces involving marriages of over forty years duration, and others which lasted only a few months. Some of her clients have experienced domestic abuse. Many of her clients are people of modest means. Sometimes issues arise after the divorce is over. When necessary, Ms. Megarry brings contempt motions to compel a party to comply with the terms of a Judgment and Decree.

She represents people in post-decree matters when one party desires to relocate outside the state, and custody and support arrangements must be modified, as well as in cases where the income of a party has changed and a modification of a child support or spousal maintenance is sought.

Unmarried people also have family law problems. Mothers and fathers may have issues of parentage, child support, custody and parental access (formerly visitation). Parties planning to marry may need preparation and negotiation of pre-nuptial agreements. Sometimes grandparents and non-parents seek custody of children. Ms. Megarry is well-versed in these areas of law, also.
